Clacton-on-Sea – 5 miles

This world famous seaside resort is renowned for its great holiday atmosphere, with a famous fun-packed pier and miles of golden sand. Build sandcastles with the kids at Clacton and Jaywick Sands, stroll on the pier, take a pleasure flight from the airfield or shop for great offers at Clacton Factory Shopping Village. There’s a spectrum of outdoor events, including the spectacular Clacton Air Show in August with its breathtaking flying displays. In the evening you might like to opt for a cosy pub meal before taking in a show.

Colchester Castle & Museum – 17 miles

A visit to Colchester Castle Museum takes you through 2000 years of some of the most important events in British history. Once the capital of Roman Britain, Colchester Castle experienced devastation in an invasion by the Normans and a siege during the English Civil War.

Since the 16th century, the Castle has been a ruin, a library and a gaol for witches. Today it is an award-winning museum featuring many hands-on displays showing Colchester's history from the Stone Age to the Civil War. There is an exciting exhibition programme, an events programme throughout the year and plenty more to see and do!

Colchester Zoo – 19 miles

Colchester Zoo has some of the best big cat and primate collections in Europe and houses over 260 rare species of animal. A great family day out.

Clacton Air Show – 5 miles

Visit the Clacton Air Show in August and enjoy a great day (or two) out for the whole family. Extending along Clacton’s seafront you’ll find an array of catering and trade stands, and lots of amusements for the kids to enjoy. Spread over two days, the Air Show offers outstanding flying programmes, including the world famous Red Arrows, Jaguar, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and Aerostars.

Beth Chatto Gardens – 11 miles

The Beth Chatto Gardens was created in 1960. This once overgrown wasteland has been transformed into an informal garden in harmony with the surrounding countryside. Spring bulbs grow through varied foliage plants, illuminating the floor for weeks. By mid-summer, there is a wealth of different leaf patterns and autumn brings colonies of Japanese anemones and colchicums. A beautiful day out for the whole family to enjoy.
